Day 4:
I awaken at 2:30 to my sheets wrapped around my profusely sweating body. I look over and it is 79 degrees in my room. The damn AC is not working. I open my door and turn the AC in the common area on full blast. This makes it cool enough to get about a hour more sleep. This is going to be a long day!
I head over for my usual coffee and breakfast. I won't bore you with what I had, I'll fill you in when I have something new. I passed on my helping Marco due to my dragging ass.
Greg and I went over to the diveshop and met with Alejandra. She told us we were to practice our skills for 30-40 mins, and then we were to assist her with a rescue diver class. We did as we were told and practiced all of our skills, some of them 3 or 4 times. She then came out for us to assist her student with "Out of Air" rescues, tired diver tows, panicked diver rescues, and other rescues. The poor student was a small lady who had to practice rescuing Greg and me! Both of us are around 6' and 210 lbs. She was not happy, but she tried her best.
We got back just before lunch was served, got cleaned up and headed to the clubhouse. Today we had pork chops, fried plantains, and rice and beans. Lemon cookies were for dessert.
After lunch we met back up with Alejandra and she told us we would be doing underwater navigation and broke us up into 2 teams. I ended up with the lady from the rescue diver course.
I was in the Army for 8 years, and I pride myself with being able to navigate with a compass. This poor lady was having a difficult time. (And we were still on land!)
We went into the water and swam out to the wreck of the Prince Albert to do two compass search patterns. The first was the expanding square and the second was the U shaped pattern. I was to navigate the expanding square and she the U pattern. We did the square pattern precisely by the book, and then switched. To say that this pattern looked like a comedy is an understatement! The pattern was to be a "U" pattern--it looked more like a child's scribbles. I was just signaled by Alejandra to let her do the navigating, so I did. We then went back to the platform and the rescue student was dismissed for the day.
Our day had a few more tasks. We were to remove our scuba, and just put our weight belt, mask and snorkels. To our suprise Alejandra threw in our skin diving exercise. We have all skin dived for many year. It was a simple task, preformed flawlessly! We impressed Alejandra. So impressed, that she let us go at 4 PM today! We headed over to the bar to get a cold cerveza to end a busy day.
Dinner was fried shrimp, lasagna, and garlic bread. There was a birthday among the guests, so there was a chocolate cake. Mmmmm.
The Penguins vs Islanders game was on at 7:30 EST. It was a challenge finding the game but I did. The game was great! Another fine sporting event watched from the clubhouse in Roatan.
I had a message from the office, told me to sleep in another room because there wasn't anyone to fix the broken AC in my room. I guess I'll be chilly tonight.
Sorry about the lack of photos. As soon as things slow a bit, I promise some.
Thanks for reading, and post up a thought....

Here's hoping tonight is a bit nipply. Remember:
ReplyDeleteCelsius x 9/5 + 32 = Farenheit
20C x 9/5 + 32 = 68F
25C x 9/5 + 32 = 77F
